Explore the outdoors. The City maintains multi-use trails and open space areas that link to parks, schools, creeks, neighboring communities and trails along the San Francisco Bay.
The trails are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and are free to the public.
John W. Christian Greenbelt
The greenbelt is located on the Hetch Hetchy water system right-of-way and extends east to west across the entire City. More than two miles of the trail, from the City’s eastern boundary at Calabazas Creek to Mathilda Avenue, serves as a natural greenbelt, linking open space amenities for pedestrians and bicyclists.

San Francisco Bay Trail
A bicycle and pedestrian trail that will eventually allow continuous travel around the shoreline of San Francisco Bay, passing through 47 cities and crossing seven toll bridges.
Key access point: The Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant at Borregas Avenue and Carl Road
Length: 300 miles, with plans to extend it to 500 miles
Activities: Hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, historic points of interest, access to 130 parks
Amenities: Bathroom, water fountain, free parking, some paved and gravel paths

Spur Trail
Connected to the San Francisco Bay Trail, the Spur Trail loops around the City treatment ponds.
Key access point: The Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant at Borregas Avenue and Carl Road
Length: 4.5 miles

Calabazas Creek Trail
This trail connects Mountain View-Alviso Road to Mission College and passes near Levi's Stadium.
Key access points: Access the trail where it crosses Mountain View-Alviso Road, Tasman Drive or Mission College Boulevard.
Length: 1.1 miles

Baylands Birding Tours
Volunteers from the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society offer free, one-hour birding tours along the Bay Trail. No reservations are required.
Starting Point: From Borregas Avenue, follow the Bay Trail signs to the public parking lot at the end of the road.
Tour times: Noon to 1 p.m., first Wednesday of the month. Tours are cancelled in event of rain.
What you might see: Great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, great egrets, pelicans and occasionally burrowing owls.
Sunnyvale Baylands
Connected to Baylands Park, Sunnyvale Baylands is a protected wetlands preserve.
Key access point: Baylands Park, 999 E. Caribbean Drive
