Join us for a day of space themed activities. There will be an out of this world science show for kids, crafts, a scavenger hunts, speakers, and more.

Onwards and Upwards: Exploring the Cosmos Through Science and Science Fiction (Grades 5 and up)

Dr. Nicole Vogt, University of New Mexico

 

Learn how and why the way the universe is presented in science fiction and popular media differs dramatically from the actual science. Also, explore what might be learned about extraterrestrial life over the next few decades.

Meet NASA Scientist Dr. Natasha Schatzman (Grades 5 and up)

 

Dr. Schatzman oversees various acoustic experimental and computational key aspects of Revolutionary Vertical Life Technology (RVLT) Project, which includes leading rotor acoustic tests in the 40-foot by 80-Foot Wind Tunnel at NASA Ames Research Center. Dr. Schatzman will discuss her NASA journey and her work on Mars helicopter efforts. There will be a student activity at the end of the talk.

Adults Create: Voyager 1 Golden Record (Ages 18 and up)

 

In 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 1 space probe. On that probe was a golden record with sounds and music from Earth. Etched into the record was a map of Earth's location. Craft your own faux record to represent Earth and humanity. Introduction by Simon Steel, Deputy Director of the Carl Sagan Center for Research at the SETI Institute.
