Fireworks Are Illegal in Sunnyvale

Post Date:06/26/2023 6:00 AM

Fireworks cause more than 19,000 fires and send over 9,000 people to the emergency room in the US each year (National Fire Protection Association).

Fireworks of any kind are prohibited in Sunnyvale – including those fireworks classified as "safe and sane" by the California State Fire Marshall (sparklers, fountains, snakes, etc.).

Aside from possibly landing you in the hospital, setting off fireworks in Sunnyvale:

  • Could get you a hefty fine
  • Is a nuisance to your neighbors
  • Terrifies pets (more pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year)
  • Can spark fires

Non-emergency calls about fireworks also tie up the 911 system. This can block people with real emergencies from getting help quickly.

  • To report fireworks-related fires or injuries – call 911
  • To report a specific location where fireworks are being set off – call 408-730-7180 (non-emergency public safety number)
