We presented results from the first community input survey to the City Council at a study session on Jan. 9, 2024. At a study session on April 9, 2024, we presented results from the second survey and a range of building design options to Council. These options reflect public input and master plan success criteria. The City Council prioritized these design options to conduct public polling in preparation for the workshop on May 21, 2024.

Phase 2 envisions a revitalized main Library. Our goal is to meet the community’s needs. We want the Library to remain a vital place for culture, connection and life-long learning. To do that, we are exploring whether to renovate or expand the existing facility. Or we could build a new facility across from the new City Hall.

The first step is to gather community input and establish a vision for the future facility. We'll then design some options. This will help us understand the potential project costs. The City Council will then consider a possible ballot measure. This measure would seek voter approval for a bond to fund the project.

• September 2023 - Council awards contract for Civic Center Phase 2 – Main Library Design Services to Group4 Architecture, Research + Planning, Inc. 
• October 2023 – Needs Study begins, including community engagement with in-person and online surveys 
• January 2024 – Conceptual Design process begins, including two rounds of community engagement 
• May 2024 – Present design options to City Council for consideration
• November 2024 – Possible ballot measure 
• Late 2024-2025 – Determine next steps following election results
