Current Status

We selected landscape architecture firm, Verde Design, Inc., as the design consultant. Together we developed a concept that meets the project goals and includes input from community meetings and surveys.

On Jan 10, 2023, the City Council approved the recommended Preferred Concept Plan.

Next Steps

The project will progress as follows:

• Completion of design, permitting and construction documents
• Construction bidding
• Construction

The estimated project completion date is the end of 2025.

The approved concept reflects community input and the City's operation and maintenance needs. Key features of the design include:

• Separate playgrounds for toddlers and school-aged children
• A restroom building near the playgrounds
• Picnic tables and areas for ping pong, cornhole and chess
• New walking paths and seating areas 
• Updated ponds featuring shade trees, cascading water, boulders and fountains

This project is a major renovation of the grounds surrounding the Community Center. The Center, built in 1973, is centrally located in Sunnyvale.

In 2014, Council approved a project to renovate the grounds surrounding the Community Center. The project will have a public input phase.

In October 2021, the City awarded a contract for design services to Verde Design, Inc. The design phase kicked off November 2021.
