Current Status

The City Council approved the Preferred Concept Plan. It includes the following modifications:

• Replace the use of artificial turf with natural grass.
• Consider removing fencing south of the multipurpose field's halfway line.
• Explore the installation of Bermuda grass and other drought resistant natural turf options.
• Add batting cages in the project design.

Next Steps 

The project will progress as follows:

• Completion of design, permitting and construction documents
• Construction bidding
• Construction

The estimated project completion date is the end of 2025.

The approved concept reflects community input and the City's operation and maintenance needs. Design features include:

• New concession stand and restroom building
• Dog park
• Natural grass
• Play equipment
• Water play area
• Mini skate park
• Greenbelt pathway lighting (with energy efficient fixtures)

The park, built in 1964, is in northern Sunnyvale. Over the years we made minor improvements and renovations. But, this will be the first major renovation of the park since it was built.

In September 2020, the City received grant funding help from the County of Santa Clara. The funding is to help us build an all-inclusive playground. The playground will be welcoming to people of all ages and all abilities.

In September 2022, the City awarded a contract for design services to Verde Design. The design phase kicked off October 2022.
