Current Status

The community outreach meetings and surveys for this project are complete. We used the community feedback to prepare a conceptual plan for the park. We presented this conceptual plan to the Parks and Recreation Commission in November 2023, and City Council approved it in December 2023. City staff and the landscape architect, Callander Associates, are currently completing the design and preparing bid and construction documents. We expect this project to be ready for construction bidding mid-2024.

Timeline

• March 2023 - City awarded design services contract to Callander Associates
• April 2023 - Design phase start
• Spring 2023 to fall 2023 - Public Outreach phase
• Fall 2023 to summer 2024 - Design and Bid document preparation
• Fall 2024 - Bidding on project work
• Winter 2024 - Construction begins

Park Options

Community input will help guide the renovations. Possible construction options include:

• Children’s play area (for ages 6 to 12)
• Open turf area
• Sports courts (half-court basketball or single tennis court)

This site is currently undeveloped. It had been part of the Corn Palace farm- and fruit-stand site. In the Corn Palace II development project, we acquired the land to build a new public park.
